FBI stalks gunman in Indiana hostage situation

Police cars outside the Prudential office building Friday in Valparaiso, Ind., where a gunman was holding hostages in a real estate office.

Updated at 2:08 p.m. ET: FBI agents entered a real estate company office in Valparaiso, Ind., on Friday after witnesses reported hearing at least three gunshots. A gunman inside the building was reported to be holding hostages after most of the company's employees were released, police and witnesses said.

Police said some hostages remained inside, but they wouldn't say how many. They said they had made contact with the gunman but wouldn't name him.

Few other details were available, but people who gathered in the parking lot as news of the situation spread told NBC News that they were receiving text messages from people inside the building, who relayed that the standoff was the result of a domestic dispute between the man and his girlfriend.
